Mitre jig with a slot every 5°, for 1.5D and 2D mandrel bends

Our second mitre block. It works the same way as the original: set the key, butt the bend against it and cut at the face of the block. The difference is the scale. There is a slot every 5° from 5° to 85°, set in two staggered rows so the numbers stay readable, which gives you 17 angles from one block.

Each engraved line sits on the true cut edge of its slot, the size is marked along the outer edge, and thumb recesses on the joint make the two halves easy to pull apart.

Which version do I need?

This listing covers 1.5D and 2D bends. Pick your tube size, then the bend radius. 1.5D means the centreline radius of the bend is 1.5 times the tube's outside diameter, and 2D is twice (the table below gives both in millimetres). If 10° steps are enough, the original mitre jig costs a little less. For tight 1D bends, see the 1D mitre jig.

These blocks are sized for OD tube: mandrel bends sold by their outside diameter. They don't suit SCH10S weld elbows, which are made to a different bend radius. For those, see the SCH10S mitre jig.

How it works

  1. Open the block and lay your bend in the bottom half.
  2. Push the key into the slot for the angle you want.
  3. Slide the bend round until its end sits against the key, then drop the top half on. Magnets hold the two halves together.
  4. Mark round the bend at the end face of the block, or cut flush to the face. The piece between the key and the face is the angle on the scale.
  5. When you're done, the key stores in the block.
