Variable angle mitre jig for 1.5D and 2D mandrel bends

A two-part block that holds a mandrel bend so you can cut it to the angle you need, and get the same angle every time. The scale runs from 10° to 80° in 10° steps, with 45° as well. Set the key, butt the bend against it and cut at the face of the block.

It turns stock 90° bends into the 20°, 30°, 45° or 60° pieces a job calls for without marking out by eye, and a second bend cut on the same setting comes out identical.

Which version do I need?

This listing covers 1.5D and 2D bends. Pick your tube size, then the bend radius. 1.5D means the centreline radius of the bend is 1.5 times the tube's outside diameter, and 2D is twice (the table below gives both in millimetres). Tight 1D bends need the 1D version, which is a different block. If you want a slot every 5° instead of every 10°, see the V2 mitre jig.

These blocks are sized for OD tube: mandrel bends sold by their outside diameter. They don't suit SCH10S weld elbows, which are made to a different bend radius. For those, see the SCH10S mitre jig.

How it works

  1. Open the block and lay your bend in the bottom half.
  2. Push the key into the slot for the angle you want.
  3. Slide the bend round until its end sits against the key, then drop the top half on. Magnets hold the two halves together.
  4. Mark round the bend at the end face of the block, or cut flush to the face. The piece between the key and the face is the angle on the scale.
  5. When you're done, the key stores in the block.
